Public Notice: Essential Infrastructure and Community Updates

As Hobart prepares for Thursday, 5 March 2026, the City Council and state authorities have issued several critical notices regarding road safety, public health consultations, and community opportunities. Residents are encouraged to review these updates to ensure minimal disruption to their daily schedules and to take advantage of active municipal programs.

Roadworks and Traffic Advisories

Several major roadwork projects are currently active across the city to improve public safety and infrastructure longevity. Motorists should be aware of the following disruptions:

  • Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: High-impact night works are currently underway. Road crews will be active between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. This project is scheduled to continue through early April, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid heavy machinery and lane closures during evening hours.
  • Edward Street, Glebe: Essential road works are taking place between Brooker Avenue and Short Street. Work is restricted to weekdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Traffic management is in place, and residents should expect minor delays through 20 March.
  • Royal Hobart Hospital Access: Due to ongoing redevelopment of the Emergency Department, a temporary entrance has been established on Argyle Street. Pedestrians and patients should follow the temporary signage to ensure safe access to the facility.

Public Health and Regulatory Consultations

The Tasmanian Department of Health is currently seeking community feedback and providing professional growth opportunities:

  • Tobacco Legislation: Public consultation remains open for the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026. Residents are invited to review the proposed amendments aimed at reducing health risks associated with tobacco and nicotine products and submit their feedback via the Department of Health portal.
  • Healthcare Workforce Support: Applications are now being accepted for the Nurse Practitioner Strategy 2025–2030 scholarships. Registered nurses working within the Tasmanian public health system have until 22 March to apply for funding to support postgraduate study in high-priority service areas.

Council Tenders and Community Grants

Today marks a significant deadline for local service providers and community organizations:

  • Tender Deadline: The formal tender for the Maintenance of Public Street Lighting and Outdoor Lighting (HOBART-1152978) closes today, 5 March 2026, at 3:00 PM. Registered suppliers must ensure all documentation is submitted through the TenderLink portal before the cutoff.
  • Community Grants Program: The March round of the City of Hobart Community Grants is currently open. Grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 are available for non-profit organizations delivering local programs that promote social inclusion and community connectedness. The final deadline for this round is 27 March.
  • Planning Representations: Members of the public are reminded that the period for making formal representations regarding current planning permit applications closes on 13 March 2026. Documents can be viewed at the Hobart Council Centre on Elizabeth Street.
