City Notices: Roadwork Alerts, Public Health Updates, and Strategic Planning

Infrastructure and Road Closures
The City of Hobart advises residents and commuters of several ongoing infrastructure projects and road closures impacting traffic flow within the CBD and the Queens Domain as of Friday, 20 March 2026. Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes in advance and allow for extra travel time.
- Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Essential night works continue at the intersection of Liverpool and Murray Streets. To minimize daytime disruption, closures are in effect between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. These works are part of a broader CBD revitalization project and are scheduled to persist through 9 April 2026.
- McVilly Drive Closure: In coordination with major utility upgrades, McVilly Drive remains closed to all vehicular traffic between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange. This closure is necessary for the installation of a new sewer main and is expected to remain in place until the end of March.
- Regatta Grounds Access: Due to ongoing pipeline installation, access to the Regatta Grounds car park may be restricted. Please follow all posted detour signage and directions from traffic marshals on-site.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Vigilance
The Tasmanian Department of Health has issued an updated health advisory following the release of the latest Communicable Diseases Bulletin. While health teams have successfully managed recent clusters, the public is reminded to remain vigilant for symptoms of measles, including fever, cough, runny nose, and a distinctive rash.
- Vaccination Status: Health officials strongly recommend that individuals born during or after 1966 ensure they have received two doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine. Vaccination remains the most effective defense against community transmission.
- Medical Guidance: If you suspect you have been exposed or are showing symptoms, please isolate immediately and contact your GP or the Public Health Hotline via telephone before visiting a clinic in person.
Strategic Planning: Draft City-Wide Bike Plan
Hobart City Council has officially entered the feedback phase for its first comprehensive city-wide bike plan in nearly 30 years. The draft strategy, presented this week, aims to transform the city’s active transport network with a goal of reaching 10,000 daily bike trips by 2033.
- Network Improvements: The plan outlines primary, secondary, and neighborhood routes designed to improve connectivity between residential areas, schools, and the city center.
- Safety Initiatives: Proposed measures include the implementation of "quiet street" treatments, intersection upgrades, and expanded bicycle parking facilities. Residents are invited to view the draft maps and provide submissions through the Council’s community engagement portal.
Utility Works: Selfs Point Sewer Transformation
TasWater reports that the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation project has reached a significant milestone, with over 3 kilometers of new pipeline now successfully laid. Work is currently concentrated near the Queens Domain, focusing on the emergency outfall pipeline. This project is vital for the long-term health of the River Derwent and ensures the city's infrastructure can support future growth.
