Discover Contemporary Art with 'Hobart Current: Here'

Today marks a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local creative scene with the biennial exhibition, Hobart Current: Here. This major contemporary art program, a partnership between the City of Hobart and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), is currently in full swing across the city. The exhibition features new works by ten Tasmanian-based artists who have responded to the theme of 'here' through various media, including sculpture, sound, and digital installations.

Visitors can begin their journey at TMAG to see seven primary works before heading out into the fresh autumn air to find outdoor installations located at Salamanca Lawns, Franklin Square, and Mawson Place. It is a fantastic way to experience the city's public spaces as living galleries, and the trail is completely free to the public.

Friday Night Live Music: Pacific Avenue and Street Eats Franko

For music lovers, the city is buzzing with live performances this evening. Indie rock fans should head to the Odeon Theatre on Liverpool Street, where the acclaimed Australian quartet Pacific Avenue is set to perform. Known for their high-energy sets and surf-rock influence, they are a highlight of the city's concert calendar this month. Doors are expected to open around 7:30 PM.

If you prefer a more casual outdoor vibe, Street Eats Franko in Franklin Square is the place to be. Tonight, local blues and soul veteran Pete Cornelius will be providing the soundtrack to your evening starting at 6:00 PM. This community favorite combines the best of Hobart’s food truck culture with a rotating lineup of live local talent, making it a staple Friday night meetup spot for families and friends alike.

Community Connections and Local Meetups

Earlier today, the local business and safety community gathered for the Hobart Networking Breakfast at Cafe Moto Vecchia in Bellerive. For those looking for afternoon entertainment, Mathers House on Bathurst Street is hosting a special performance by The Breed from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. This event offers a nostalgic trip through the rock and roll sounds of the 1960s and is a popular community meetup for residents looking to enjoy a social afternoon of music.

As the sun sets, social groups are active across the CBD. The Hobart Card Games Meetup is hosting a session of Cards Against Humanity at 6:00 PM, while other social groups are meeting for casual drinks at Boodle Beasley on Elizabeth Street, offering plenty of ways to connect with fellow locals this Friday evening.
