Significant Traffic and Transport Disruptions in Hobart: Tuesday, 10 March 2026

Hobart commuters should prepare for a challenging Tuesday as several major roadwork projects and public transport adjustments take effect across the metropolitan area. The most significant impacts are expected for those travelling between the Huon Valley and the CBD, as well as residents in the northern suburbs and the Eastern Shore. If you are reliant on public transport, checking real-time schedules is highly recommended as multiple service alerts are active today.

Public Transport and Metro Tasmania Alerts

Metro Tasmania has issued several specific notices for Tuesday, 10 March. Bus commuters should be aware of the following disruptions:

  • Springfield Interchange: Major stop changes are in place due to essential painting works. Commuters should follow on-site signage to locate temporary boarding points.
  • Queens Walk and Cornelian Bay: Road closures in this area have necessitated service diversions. Delays are expected for routes normally servicing New Town.
  • Rosny Esplanade: A localized closure in Rosny will affect Eastern Shore services. Please allow extra travel time for buses moving through the Rosny Park hub.
  • Renfrew Circle, Goodwood: Stop closures are active today, requiring passengers to use alternative stops in the immediate vicinity.

Additionally, commuters are reminded that the permanent service adjustments implemented earlier this year remain in effect. Approximately 120 services across the Hobart network that were previously suspended have been formally removed following the Department of State Growth review, making the use of real-time tracking tools more critical than ever.

Roadworks and Major Artery Delays

The Southern Outlet and Huon Highway corridor continues to be a primary site of congestion. Under the Freight Capacity Upgrade Program, two major work zones are active today:

  • Huon Highway (Leslie Road): Between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, lane closures and reduced speed limits are in place near Leslie Vale. This is expected to impact both the morning and afternoon peak periods.
  • Southern Outlet to Summerleas Road: Northbound lane closures will commence at 9:30 am and continue until 6:00 pm. While this avoids the height of the morning rush, it will cause significant tailbacks for the afternoon commute toward Kingston.
  • CBD Intersection Works: The intersection of Liverpool Street and Murray Street is subject to night works starting at 6:00 pm. Commuters leaving the city late should expect lane restrictions and traffic controllers on-site.
  • Edward Street, Glebe: A full road closure remains in place between Brooker Avenue and Short Street from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm for road reconstruction.

Ongoing Infrastructure Projects

Work continues on the dismantling of the old Bridgewater Bridge. While the new four-lane bridge remains fully operational, motorists should watch for heavy vehicle movements entering and exiting the site at Granton and Bridgewater. No full closures are scheduled for the bridge itself today, but the presence of trucks may cause minor intermittent slowing on the Brooker Highway approach.

In the Glenorchy area, safety improvement works on Main Road and carpark construction at Giblins Reserve are ongoing. Cyclists should note that bike lanes on sections of Main Road are currently closed, requiring riders to merge with general traffic lanes. Reduced speed limits are strictly enforced in these zones for the protection of road crews.
