Public Service Announcement: Essential Road Infrastructure Works

The City of Hobart wishes to advise residents and commuters of ongoing road closures and traffic management measures active today, Sunday, 5 April 2026. These works are part of the city’s commitment to improving critical infrastructure and ensuring public safety.

  • McVilly Drive and Tasman Highway: The McVilly Drive underpass and the Tasman Highway Interchange (between Tasman Highway, Davies Avenue, and the Regatta Grounds) remain closed to all vehicular traffic. This closure is necessary for the ongoing installation of a rising sewer main. Disruptions are expected to continue until Tuesday, 7 April 2026. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes and allow for additional travel time.
  • Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Ongoing night works at this major intersection are scheduled to continue through to Thursday, 9 April. While the primary activity occurs between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, drivers may still encounter temporary lane shifts or minor delays today as equipment is staged for tonight’s operations.
  • Rosny Esplanade: Extensive road works continue along Rosny Esplanade. Sections of the road between Kellatie Road and Ninda Street are closed 24/7. Commuters relying on public transport should note that several bus stops in the vicinity remain unserviced, with temporary alternatives in place.

Health and Legislative Updates

The Tasmanian Department of Health continues its consultation phase regarding the 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy 2026–2046. This long-term initiative focuses on improving health literacy and participation across the state. Additionally, the public is reminded that submissions regarding the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026 have recently closed; however, the government is scheduled to publish all public submissions and consultation findings by 13 April 2026. This legislation aims to further strengthen tobacco control laws and address the supply of illicit vaping products within the community.
