Public Notice: CBD Roadworks and Community Service Announcements

Official City Notice Roundup: Monday, 30 March 2026
The City of Hobart is advising residents and commuters of several essential service updates, infrastructure projects, and public consultation deadlines active for Monday, 30 March 2026. These notices are issued to ensure public safety and to maintain the city’s infrastructure. Please review the following alerts regarding traffic management, community programs, and public health.
Roadworks and Traffic Disruptions
Several major roadwork projects are currently impacting traffic flow within the Hobart CBD and surrounding areas. Commuters are encouraged to plan their routes in advance to avoid delays.
- Collins and Murray Street Intersection: Final night works are scheduled for the intersection of Collins Street and Murray Street. Resurfacing activities will conclude tonight, Monday, 30 March. Work is carried out between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am to minimize daytime disruption. Motorists should be aware of partial lane closures and localized noise.
- Elizabeth Street CBD Resurfacing: Major resurfacing and footpath expansion works are ongoing on Elizabeth Street between Macquarie and Davey streets. This $510,000 project aims to improve safety for bus commuters by widening the footpath area. Work is primarily conducted at night; however, temporary daytime lane restrictions may apply to facilitate site safety.
- McVilly Drive Closure: In the Queens Domain, McVilly Drive remains closed to all vehicular traffic between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange. This closure is necessary for the installation of a new sewer main as part of the broader Selfs Point Sewer Transformation project. The road is expected to remain closed until mid-April.
Community Announcements and Deadlines
The City of Hobart is also highlighting community engagement opportunities and administrative deadlines for residents this week.
- 'My Street' Winter Event Applications: Tomorrow, 31 March, is the final day for residents to submit expressions of interest for the 'My Street' program. This initiative allows locals to host free outdoor street parties during the winter months, with the Council providing support for road closures, traffic management, and event logistics. At least three neighbors must form an organizing group to apply.
- Selfs Point Sewer Transformation: Ongoing construction continues near Queens Walk and the Cornelian Bay area. Residents are advised of increased heavy vehicle movement near the Tasman Highway as crews install new pipeline infrastructure designed to protect the Derwent River environment.
Public Health Advisories
The Tasmanian Department of Health is currently seeking public feedback on the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026. This consultation period remains open for Hobart residents to share their views on proposed legislative changes regarding tobacco and vaping regulations. Detailed copies of the bill are available through official state government portals.
