Official City Notice Roundup: Wednesday, 4 March 2026

The City of Hobart and relevant state authorities have issued several public notices and service advisories effective for Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to review the following updates regarding transport disruptions, health facility access, and community consultations.

Road and Public Transport Disruptions

Several major roadwork projects are currently active, impacting traffic flow and public transport across the city:

  • Springfield Interchange: Metro Tasmania is currently conducting painting works at the Springfield Interchange. For Wednesday, 4 March, commuters should note that specific bus stops will be closed on a rotating basis to facilitate safety. Passengers are advised to use the temporary alternative stops as signposted at the interchange.
  • Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Ongoing night works for road upgrades continue at this busy intersection. Construction occurs between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. While the road remains open during the day, motorists may encounter temporary plates or altered surfaces during Wednesday morning commutes.
  • Queens Walk, New Town: Road works remain active on Queens Walk between Gas Road and Selfs Point Road. Traffic restrictions are in place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Access is maintained for local residents, but through-traffic should expect delays.
  • Edward Street, Glebe: Construction continues between Brooker Avenue and Short Street. Public access is restricted between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm on weekdays to allow for essential road repairs.

Health Advisory: Royal Hobart Hospital Access

The Tasmanian Department of Health has initiated the next phase of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Emergency Department expansion. As of this week, construction preparation is visible around the Liverpool Street and Argyle Street precincts. A temporary Emergency Department entrance has been established on Argyle Street. Patients and visitors are urged to follow the updated directional signage and allow extra time for arrival due to changed traffic conditions in the immediate vicinity of the hospital.

Public Health and Community Consultation

The City and State Government are currently seeking community feedback on several key initiatives:

  • Public Health Amendment Bill: Consultation remains open for the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026. Residents and business owners have until Friday, 6 March, to submit their feedback via email to the Department of Health.
  • South Hobart Oval Dog Access: The City of Hobart is inviting residents to comment on a proposal to designate South Hobart Oval as a restricted area for dogs. This consultation is part of a broader review of the City’s dog management policy.

Public Tenders

Contractors are reminded that the tender for the Maintenance of Public Street Lighting and Outdoor Lighting (Ref: HOBART-1152978) is scheduled to close on Thursday, 5 March 2026, at 3:00 pm. Final submissions must be lodged via the official electronic tender portal.
