Public Notice: Hobart City Roundup for Saturday, 21 March 2026

As Hobart prepares for a busy weekend featuring major sporting milestones and ongoing infrastructure improvements, the City of Hobart and the Tasmanian Department of Health have issued several notices for Saturday, 21 March 2026. Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead for significant road closures, public transport adjustments, and important health recommendations currently in effect across the municipal area.

Road Closures and Transport Alerts

  • Salamanca Place: In accordance with the weekly Salamanca Market schedule, Salamanca Place will be closed to all vehicular traffic between Montpelier Retreat and the Silos from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm. It is an offence to leave a vehicle parked on Salamanca Place or in the Tasman Fountain car park during these hours. Vehicles remaining after the 5:30 am cutoff will be issued infringement notices and towed at the owner's expense.
  • McVilly Drive and Queens Domain: As part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation project, McVilly Drive is temporarily closed to all traffic between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange. Access to the Queens Domain and the Intercity Cycleway may be redirected. This essential work is part of a larger initiative to protect the Derwent River environment.
  • CBD Infrastructure Works: Ongoing road surface upgrades at the intersection of Liverpool Street and Murray Street will continue. While active construction is primarily scheduled for night hours (6:00 pm to 6:00 am), motorists should remain alert for minor lane shifts and temporary signage during the day.
  • Collins Street Trial: Installation for the second stage of the Collins Street Streetscape Improvement Trial is now active. Please exercise caution when navigating the precinct as new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is being installed to improve safety and accessibility.

Public Health Advisories

  • Measles Vaccination Reminder: Public Health Services reminds all residents born during or after 1966 to ensure they have received two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Following recent community transmissions, individuals exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or a blotchy rash are urged to isolate and contact their GP via phone before visiting any clinic.
  • Urgent Care Services: Tasmanian Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are operating with extended hours throughout the month of March to alleviate pressure on hospital emergency departments. Additionally, the 2026 RSV Maternal and Infant Protection Program is currently active, providing clinical guidance and protection for vulnerable infants.

Community & Planning Notices

  • Tasmania Devils VFL Debut: North Hobart Oval will host the Tasmania Devils’ inaugural VFL match this Saturday. Significant pedestrian traffic is expected in the North Hobart dining precinct throughout the day. Footy fans are encouraged to arrive early and utilize public transport to minimize parking congestion in the surrounding residential streets.
  • Planning Representations: The City of Hobart reminds the public that the deadline for representations regarding currently advertised planning permits is 11:59 pm on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. Documentation for proposed developments can be viewed at the Hobart Council Centre on Elizabeth Street.
