Public Notice: Hobart Infrastructure Projects and Health Advisory

City of Hobart Public Service Announcement
The City of Hobart has issued several official notices regarding infrastructure improvements, road maintenance, and public health for Friday, 27 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to review the following updates to ensure minimal disruption to their daily schedules and to remain informed on local health guidelines.
Major Road Closures and Infrastructure Works
Several significant road projects are reaching key milestones or entering intensive phases today. Motorists should plan for detours and potential delays in the following areas:
- Queens Walk Closure (New Town): The final day of the scheduled road works on Queens Walk, between Gas Road and Selfs Point Road, is Friday, 27 March. The road remains closed to all vehicular traffic between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. This closure is essential for the completion of structural upgrades. Final resurfacing is expected to be completed by the evening, with the road slated to reopen for the weekend.
- McVilly Drive Sewer Installation: The long-term closure of McVilly Drive between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange remains in effect. This closure, which began earlier this month, is required for the installation of a new rising sewer main. The underpass and interchange areas are restricted until 10 April 2026. Access to the Regatta Grounds is maintained via signposted detours.
- Selfs Point Sewer Transformation: In conjunction with TasWater, sections of Queens Walk near the Cornelian Bay Oval are subject to intermittent access restrictions. No through access is available between the Domain Highway and Selfs Point Road today. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to follow the established diversions around the work site.
CBD Intersection Maintenance and Night Works
To minimize impact on business hours, the City of Hobart is continuing its program of essential night works at major intersections. Residents in the city center may notice increased activity during evening hours:
- Collins and Murray Street Intersection: Night works will continue from 6:00 pm tonight until 6:00 am tomorrow morning. While the intersection remains partially open, lane restrictions are in place to allow for pavement repairs.
- Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Ongoing maintenance at this key junction continues between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. These works are scheduled to persist through early April to facilitate critical utility upgrades.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Monitoring
Tasmanian health authorities have reiterated a national red alert regarding measles monitoring. While notifications within Tasmania remain low compared to other states, the Department of Health emphasizes the importance of early detection and vaccination. Residents who have not completed their vaccination schedule are encouraged to contact their general practitioner. Public health officials continue to monitor sporadic cases across the country and advise immediate isolation and medical consultation if symptoms, such as fever or a distinctive rash, develop.
