Public Notice: Hobart Roadworks, Parking Closures, and Health Advisories for March 23

Commuter and Infrastructure Alerts
The City of Hobart and Metro Tasmania have issued several advisories regarding significant roadworks and service diversions active as of Monday, 23 March 2026. These works are essential for the maintenance and expansion of the city's utility and transport networks.
- Queens Domain Sewer Works: McVilly Drive is currently closed to all vehicular traffic between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange. This closure, which began on March 16, is scheduled to remain in place until 6:00 PM on Tuesday, 31 March. The work involves critical sewer main installations in the area.
- Cornelian Bay Infrastructure Upgrades: Queens Walk remains closed between Bellevue Parade and Bell Street. This project is expected to conclude by 27 March. Metro Route 562 continues to operate under diversion; commuters should utilize alternative stops at Risdon Road or Park Street, as the Rugby Park and Hockey Centre stops remain unavailable.
- Kingston Road Construction: Major work on Browns Road has entered a critical phase, resulting in the closure of the Firthside off-ramp. Over a dozen bus routes are affected, including several school services. Drivers and transit users are advised to allow for an additional 15 minutes of travel time during peak periods.
Public Access and Parking
Effective immediately and continuing through the end of the month, the Regatta Grounds parking facility is unavailable for public use. The closure supports ongoing site remediation and construction activities. The City of Hobart recommends the use of multi-storey car parks within the CBD to mitigate the loss of these spaces. Furthermore, a series of night works are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM on Monday, 23 March, across various city sectors, which may result in temporary lane narrowing and reduced speed limits.
Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Access
The Tasmanian Department of Health has confirmed that the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department expansion project is entering a high-activity phase this week. While the emergency department remains open 24/7 for urgent care, the public should be aware of ongoing construction preparation near the main hospital entrance. Visitors are encouraged to follow all directional signage and allow extra time for patient drop-off and entry.
Council Governance and Opportunities
Greater Hobart residents are notified that the Clarence City Council will convene for its scheduled meeting on Monday evening, 23 March, at 6:00 PM at the Rosny Park Chambers. Additionally, the City of Hobart is currently inviting submissions for the Light Pole Replacement Program (Tender HOBART-1156392). Formal applications for this city-wide infrastructure project are due by the close of business on 27 March 2026.
