Official City Roundup: Notices for 7 March 2026

As Hobart prepares for a busy first weekend of March, the City Council and Tasmanian Department of Health have issued several official notices regarding road closures, infrastructure projects, and public health service changes. Residents and visitors are advised to review the following updates to ensure minimal disruption to their weekend plans.

Road Closures and Construction Works

Major infrastructure projects are currently impacting traffic flow within the CBD and surrounding suburbs. Key areas of concern for Saturday, 7 March include:

  • Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Ongoing night works for road upgrades continue through 9 April. While the intersection is primarily affected between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, motorists should expect potential lane shifts and residual equipment on-site during daylight hours.
  • Queens Walk, New Town: Road works between Gas Road and Selfs Point Road are scheduled from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Local access is maintained, but through-traffic is encouraged to seek alternative routes.
  • Salamanca Place: As with every Saturday, Salamanca Place is closed to all vehicular traffic from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm to facilitate the Salamanca Market. The market officially operates from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Health Advisory: RHH Access and System Reporting

The Tasmanian Department of Health has issued a notice regarding the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Construction preparation for the next phase of the Emergency Department expansion commenced on 6 March. Patients and visitors are advised that temporary signage and modified traffic management are in place around the Liverpool Street side of the hospital.

Furthermore, as of 1 March 2026, the Department of Health has launched a new Daily Health System Dashboard. This public service provides near real-time data on ambulance response times and emergency department wait times, allowing residents to make informed decisions about seeking non-urgent care.

City Tenders and Planning Strategy

The City of Hobart has several active public tenders and planning initiatives currently open for community awareness:

  • Bushland Tracks Maintenance: A formal tender for a Panel of Providers for Bushland Tracks (HOBART-1154685) is active, with submissions closing on 17 March.
  • West Hobart Speed Limits: Following strong community support, the Council is finalizing a submission for a 40km/h area-wide speed limit across West Hobart to enhance pedestrian safety near local schools.

Regional Community Notice

Residents travelling toward Sorell should be aware of "The Tassie Event 2026," a major geocaching gathering at Pembroke Park Sports Arena. The event runs Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and may result in increased local traffic on the Tasman Highway.
