CBD Road Closures and Traffic Adjustments

The City of Hobart has authorized several road closures to facilitate essential infrastructure works this Sunday, 29 March 2026. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and expect minor delays in the city center.

  • Collins Street: The section between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday, 29 March. This closure is required for scheduled road maintenance.
  • Intersection Night Works: Ongoing night works continue at the intersections of Collins and Murray Streets, as well as Liverpool and Murray Streets. These works occur between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. While the intersections may remain partially open, significant diversions are in place during work hours.
  • McVilly Drive: Traffic restrictions remain in effect on McVilly Drive, between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange at the Queens Domain, for the continued installation of a new sewer main. This project is expected to continue through early April.

Planned Water Service Interruptions

TasWater has issued a notice for a planned service interruption affecting residents in the Kingston area to allow for new connection works. The interruption is scheduled to begin late Sunday evening.

  • Kingston: Properties along Kingston View Drive and Summerleas Road will experience a water outage from 9:00 pm on Sunday, 29 March, until approximately 4:00 am on Monday, 30 March. Affected residents are encouraged to store sufficient water for personal use during this period.

Public Health and Safety Alerts

The Tasmanian Department of Health maintains several active advisories as of late March 2026. Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding communicable diseases.

  • Measles Red Alert: A national Red Alert for measles remains in effect. Health authorities continue to emphasize early case detection and vaccination. Residents experiencing symptoms such as fever and a blotchy rash should contact their GP via phone before attending a clinic.
  • Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Blue Alert: A Blue Alert for pertussis remains active across Tasmania. Public health officials recommend ensuring all vaccinations are up to date, particularly for those in contact with young children.
  • Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) Update: Members of the public are reminded that free COVID-19 RATs will no longer be available at Service Tasmania centers after 30 April 2026.
