CBD Infrastructure and Road Works

The City of Hobart continues to implement essential infrastructure upgrades and streetscape improvements. Please be aware of the following disruptions active on Saturday, 28 March:

  • Liverpool and Murray Street Intersection: Essential road works are ongoing at this CBD intersection. While major works are scheduled as night shifts (6:00 pm to 6:00 am), motorists should expect modified traffic conditions, including temporary lane closures and speed restrictions throughout the day.
  • McVilly Drive: The section of McVilly Drive between Davies Avenue and the Tasman Highway interchange remains closed to vehicular traffic. This closure is part of ongoing works scheduled to continue through April 2026. Pedestrian access to the Queens Domain is maintained via alternate routes.

Public Event Advisory: Kunanyi Mountain Run

The City of Hobart welcomes participants for the Kunanyi Mountain Run, occurring this weekend, 28-29 March 2026. With over 1,000 runners expected on the mountain, members of the public are advised that popular trails on kunanyi / Mount Wellington may be significantly more crowded than usual. While no major road closures are planned for Pinnacle Road specifically for this event, parking at the Springs and the Pinnacle is expected to reach capacity early. Public transport or carpooling is strongly recommended for those visiting the mountain.

Environmental and Safety Notices

The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service reminds all visitors to regional reserves and national parks near Hobart that seasonal campfire bans remain in effect. To reduce the risk of bushfires, campfires are strictly prohibited in all designated high-risk areas. Additionally, the Tasmanian Government is currently seeking community feedback on the draft Threatened Species Strategy. Hobart residents are encouraged to review the strategy online and submit feedback before the consultation period concludes in mid-2026.
