City Notice: Road Closures and Traffic Management

The City of Hobart has authorized several temporary road closures to facilitate essential infrastructure maintenance and public safety works. Motorists and residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, to avoid delays.

• Queens Walk, New Town: Queens Walk, located between Self Point Road and Marine Esplanade, is currently closed to all through traffic from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. This closure is required for the installation of new sewer mains. The works are significant and are expected to continue on weekdays through late March. While local access will be maintained where safe, heavy congestion is anticipated in the surrounding New Town area during peak morning and afternoon periods.
• Federal Street, North Hobart: Scheduled night works are ongoing on Federal Street between Elizabeth Street and Argyle Street. Road crews are active between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am on weeknights. Residents should expect moderate noise levels and localized traffic diversions during these overnight periods. This project is part of the city's broader road rehabilitation program intended to improve surface durability.

Public Health: Tobacco and Vaping Amendment Consultation

The Tasmanian Department of Health is formally seeking public input on the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026. This legislative update is designed to address the increasing availability of illicit tobacco, nicotine pouches, and e-cigarettes across the state.

The consultation period is currently active and remains open for submissions until 6 March 2026. The proposed bill introduces stricter controls on the sale and supply of smoking products and strengthens existing tobacco control laws. Community members, business owners, and health advocates are encouraged to review the draft legislation to understand how these changes may impact public health outcomes in Hobart.

Planning and Development Applications
