Public Notice: Hobart Infrastructure Works and Sunday Community Advisory

Infrastructure and Traffic Disruptions
The City of Hobart and TasWater advise residents of ongoing major infrastructure works affecting several key thoroughfares this Sunday, 22 March 2026. As part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project, McVilly Drive remains temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic to facilitate the installation of a new 4.3 km sewer pipeline. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes around the Domain precinct.
Additionally, Queens Walk continues to experience through-traffic closures between the northern end of Cornelian Bay Oval and Selfs Point Road. These works, essential for the expansion of the Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant, are expected to persist through late March. Local access to the upper car park for the housing complex is being maintained via temporary arrangements.
Commuters should also be aware of the Collins Street Streetscape Improvement Trial. Stage 2 of the installation is now underway, involving temporary lane shifts and parking restrictions aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and public transport accessibility in the CBD.
Health and Public Service Announcements
The Tasmanian Department of Health reminds eligible healthcare professionals that applications for the Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Scheme close at 11:59 PM today, Sunday, 22 March 2026. This initiative supports Registered Nurses in the public health system pursuing Masters qualifications to strengthen the state's workforce in high-priority service areas.
The public is also advised of potential service impacts across the state's hospital system due to ongoing industrial action. Work bans by the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) may lead to delays in elective procedures and non-emergency diagnostics. Patients are encouraged to check the Department of Health website for daily updates on hospital access and wait times.
