Public Health Advisory: Water Catchment Monitoring

The City of Hobart notes recent updates from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and the Department of Public Health regarding the use of antibiotics at the Meadowbank hatchery. Following reports of the use of oxytetracycline within the Greater Hobart water catchment area, health officials have issued statements to reassure the public regarding water safety monitoring processes. While current testing indicates that the water remains safe for consumption, residents are advised that mandatory reporting and real-time disclosure of monitoring at freshwater hatcheries remain a priority for regional oversight. The City continues to work with state authorities to ensure the long-term integrity of the municipal water supply.

Commuters and residents are advised that essential road maintenance remains active across the city network. Night works are scheduled to continue through Friday, 20 February 2026. These works occur between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am on weeknights to minimize disruption to peak daytime traffic. Motorists should anticipate localized delays and are requested to follow all temporary traffic signage and speed reductions. Specific attention is drawn to Kemp Street, where crane operations are scheduled later this week, potentially impacting access to the Vibe Hotel vicinity.
