Hobart Traffic and Transport Update: Friday, 13 February 2026

Commuters across Hobart should prepare for several active roadwork sites and ongoing closures this morning, Friday, 13 February 2026. While the morning peak is expected to flow relatively well on major arteries like the Tasman Highway, local diversions in North Hobart, New Town, and Glebe will require extra travel time for those navigating city-fringe suburbs.

Major Roadworks and Closures

Several key projects are currently impacting traffic flow within the Hobart City Council area:

  • Elizabeth Street, North Hobart: Night works continue between Elphinstone Road and Rupert Avenue. While these works are scheduled from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, commuters passing through early this morning should be alert for remaining traffic management equipment or personnel packing down the site. Expect similar disruptions starting again this evening.
  • Queens Walk, New Town: A significant closure remains in place between Gas Road and Selfs Point Road. This section is closed to vehicular traffic from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily as part of ongoing road infrastructure improvements. Drivers heading toward Cornelian Bay or the hockey center should use alternative routes via the Brooker Highway.
  • Edward Street, Glebe: Work continues between Brooker Avenue and Short Street from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Residents and commuters using this link to access the city from the Glebe area should expect minor delays and localized detours during these hours.
  • Rosny Esplanade: On the Eastern Shore, the ongoing closure of Rosny Esplanade remains in effect. Motorists are advised to follow posted detours and allow for slight congestion on adjacent residential streets during peak drop-off and pick-up times.

Public Transport and School Bus Alerts

Metro Tasmania reports that all general access and school bus services are currently operating as scheduled. Following the commencement of Term 1 earlier this month, school bus traffic is now at full volume. Commuters are reminded that services marked with an 'S' in timetables are active today. While the network is running on time, Metro advises passengers to monitor the official app for any real-time adjustments due to localized traffic congestion near construction zones in North Hobart and Goodwood, where stop closures on Renfrew Circle remain active.

Weekend Preview: Run the Bridge

Looking ahead to the weekend, the "Run the Bridge" event on Sunday, 15 February, will cause major disruptions across the Tasman Bridge and the city center. If you are planning travel for Sunday morning, expect significant closures starting from 7:00 AM around Bellerive Oval, the Tasman Highway, and Castray Esplanade. We recommend checking specific event route maps tomorrow to avoid being caught in the Sunday morning gridlock.

Drive safely and allow an extra five to ten minutes for your journey if your route involves New Town or North Hobart this morning.
